About
This four-day course offers children a fun, playful and creative environment to make their own artworks. Children will work with two artists across the Galleries and Studios at Camden Arts Centre, using clay and animation to consider themes from the current exhibitions.
Working in the Ceramics Studio, artist Sophie Alda will explore the sculptural potential of clay, demonstrating ceramic techniques to transform 2D designs into 3D objects. In the Drawing Studio, participants will continue to develop their ideas with animation artist Lily Ash Sakula, using stop motion to bring their character designs and story boards to life through film.
All materials are provided, and final ceramic pieces will be glazed and fired in our on-site kilns.
There will be an open studio exhibition of artworks at 3.00pm on the last day for friends and family to attend.
Sophie Alda is an artist, designer, maker, facilitator and founding member of east London workshop co-operative Clay Collective. She studied at Brighton University, graduating in 2009 and currently lives and works between London and Bristol. Her work spans co-operation, community organising and exploration of sculptural form. Her vessels and sculptures are all individually hand-built, painted and glazed, combining simple playful design, rich colour and a narrative twist. Read more.
Lily Ash Sakula is an artist, animator and educator. They recently completed an MA in Character Animation at Central Saint Martins. Their work uses simple bold lines and humour to tell complex and nuanced stories around themes of gender, identity and mental health. They work primarily in 2D and stop motion animation, as well as illustration, comics and zines. Lily has facilitated animation and drawing workshops with participants aged 5 to 99. See more.
