Islington Festival of Music & Art

About
We are so happy to welcome back some of the musicians that joined us last year - Kati Debretzeni will be delighting us with another solo baroque violin recital, Leon Bosch will be joined by his colleagues of I Musicanti to bring us some beautiful string quintet music, Peter Bronder will take us through another song journey, this time with the music of Clara and Robert Schumann. We are delighted that Dolph van Eden will be returning too, with his inspiring drawing classes, and Marc Gascoigne (our wonderful photographer, as you can see from these photos from last year) will be leading his own photography workshop!
We are thrilled to welcome ZRI who will bring us a re-scored version of the Brahms clarinet quintet mixed with some klezmer and gypsy music. Other highlights include a piano recital by prize-winning Dmitrii Kalashnikov, and having some of our favourite chamber music friends to play lovely music with, around the the theme "Brahms - Influences and Legacy". We are particularly excited to play the beautiful Brahms B Major Trio, since it is one of our personal favourites, and the rarely played Dohnányi Sextet! We will be returning to Islington Square for our lunchtime concerts, including 2 Jazz Saturdays, welcoming back Nathan Tinker with his spectacular original compositions for Jazz piano, and we welcome the Sol Grimshaw Quartet for some Gypsy Jazz! Newington Green Meeting House will host workshops and some late night concerts, including The Concert Trombone Quartette, who will guide us through the fascinating journey of the evolution of the trombone! Christ Church Highbury will host four evening concerts, and we are excited to announce two new venues - St Mary's Upper Street, hosting the first two evening concerts , and the Little Angel Theatre, which is the perfect venue for the return of our much-loved lutenist Sergio Bucheli , this year partnered by tenor Hugo Hymas. As you can see, there is a lot happening, so please do take a look at our full programme, and we hope you enjoy reading about it as much as we enjoyed putting it all together!
