About
reating together as a family is so much fun!
Imagine Nation is organizing a unique family orientated art session where children and parents, grandparents, siblings will together work on their self-portraits inspired by a great contemporary artist Julian Opie.
You are going to use a photograph of your face, transfer it into a canvas and finish using acrylic paints to create a memorable image of yourself at the start of 2019. What a great memory to cherish!
Julian Opie was born in London in 1958 and studied art at the Goldsmiths University. Portraits and animated walking figures, rendered with minimal detail in black line drawing, are hallmarks of the artist's style. His themes have been described as "engagement with art history, use of new technology, obsession with the human body" and "work with one idea across different media". You can see his work in many museums and art galleries in the world. Opie's most notable commissions was the design of an album cover for British pop band Blur in 2000, which you can see at the National Portrait Gallery.
For Who?
The workshop is designed to be enjoyed by everyone age 5-105. We can not accept any younger children to participate in our events because the length of the session and activities involved might not be suitable.
How?
This activity encourages families to work together, share creative ideas and paint a self portrait on canvas with acrylic paint. One ticket admits one.
The Session
Our Family Art Workshops last 2.5 hours and involve art activities, discussion and snack time. Each participant receives canvas and a specially edited print of their face. We discuss works by Julian Opie, study his style and think about how we would like to show ourselves in a self portrait. Each participant is then guided in step by step process of creating a memorable work of art.
Where?
The workshop will take place at the William Hobbayne Centre, 45 Lower Boston Rd, London W7 3TP
Children’s safety
All of our educators and volunteers hold an Enhanced DBS check.
