About

What’s life in the lab really like? Bring your curiosity and have a chat with some of the friendly scientists at The Crick. Discover what life in the lab is like and get hands-on with some of the tools they use in their daily work.

Each week, there will be a different scientist ready to answer your burning questions – here’s what you can expect during January’s sessions.

Fri 10 January (12.30pm-2.30pm) Meet genomics scientist, Jimmy Perez-Lloret, who converts DNA into libraries that become readable information for all teams across the Crick and cell biologist, Lyn Healy, who grows and cares for stem cells.

Wed 15 January (5pm-7pm) This week’s specialists are database administrator, Jackie Goldman, who builds databases to support work across the building and cell biologist, Imke Ensinck, who uses yeast to learn how cells make decisions.

Fri 24 January (12.30pm-2.30pm) Ready to pass on their expertise are neuroscientist Giulia Tyzack, who uses stem cells to study diseases affecting the human brain and engineer, Adam Hurst, who designs and makes bespoke equipment for scientists.

Fri 31 January (12.30pm-2.30pm) Specialists this week are cell biologist, Katherine Courtis, who has specialized in gene editing and data analyst, Stephanie Strohbuecker, who uses tools for understanding or solving biological problems.

Visiting The Crick Meet a Scientist sessions are designed for individuals and small groups. If you plan to visit in a group of 7 or more, or are a school group, please let the team know by emailing engage@crick.ac.uk.

Sessions are free, and you can turn up at any time. Find out more about the scientists’ work, and discover all the events running throughout the year via The Francis Crick Institute website.
