There will be a short concert at the end of the day for you to hear what participants have been learning.

This Christmas, we will be singing a range of carols and festive music from around the world. We will include some music history and appreciation, some music theory and tips to develop vocal technique.

Repertoire will focus on some of the following: – The Shepherd’s pipe carol: John Rutter – Sing Lullaby: trad. Basque – Quem Pastores: trad. German – Adam lay ybounden: Boris Ord – The Calypso Carol: Michael Perry

The course will be led by Dr Edward Wickham, Director of Music at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge (https://www.caths.cam.ac.uk/directory/dr-edward-wickham)  and Benjamin Cox  (https://benjamincoxmusic.com/) London based musical director and composer.

There will be an informal concert at the end of each day at 3.30 pm to which families are welcome to attend.

About the venue

Heath St Baptish Church was founded in 1861. It stands halfway between Hampstead High Street and the famous Heath and only a few minutes walk from Hampstead Heath tube station.

Their openness owes much to their forebears – the Baptists of Hampstead – who, in the nineteenth century, worshipped in an upstairs room of a house on Holly Bush Hill and there in 1825 the church decided to open its Communion Service to all believers.

They owe their building not least to the generosity of James Harvey – a London merchant and deacon of Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church – who, recently widowed, moved out of the city to Hampstead for the sake of his young son’s failing health. As a ‘Thank You’ to God for his son’s subsequent recovery, he bought what was then a plot of land used as a fruit and vegetable garden and set about the building of what was to become Heath Street Baptist Church.
