About
Sophia Jansson, creative director of Moomin Characters and niece of famous Finnish author Tove Jansson (1914-2001), speaks about her aunt’s children and adult writing and life-long career as an illustrator and fine artist.
Her most famous creation, the Moomins, celebrate 75 years this year, and were also made into a cartoon strip for London Evening News for two decades from 1954, making Britain and London part of the Moominvalley story. Jansson was also much politically aware, and an early champion of both environmental and feminist issues. With a British/Finnish made Moomin TV series now screening, featuring voices by Kate Winslet, Rosamund Pike and Jennifer Saunders, the Moomins and Tove Jansson are back to capture new generations. The evening is arranged in collaboration with Moomin Shop Camden.
